“TAROT” REVIEW

Directed and written by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg. A runtime of one hour and thirty-two minutes. With a PG-13 rating.

“Haley” played by Harriet Slater, her recently broken-up ex-boyfriend “Grant” played by Adain Bradley, “Paxton” played by Jacob Batalon, “Paige” played by Avantika, “Madeline” played by Humberly González, “Lucas” played by Wolfgang Novogratz, and “Elise” played by Larsen Thompson were all at a lavish Airbnb for “Elise”‘s birthday.

This group of friends, while reminiscing on old times and looking for something to do, stumbled on some Tarot cards that were locked up. “Haley,” being into astrology and an avid Tarot card reader, was pressured to give everyone a reading.

These weren’t your average Tarot cards. These were cursed by a scorned evil witch. Now each friend will be faced with the demonic version of whatever was on their card during their reading.

They will need the help of “Alma,” played by Olwen Fouéré. A woman who experienced the wrath of these cards and lived to tell the tale. Will these young college kids survive, or will they die horrific deaths?

“Tarot” wasn’t the best horror film. It was more ridiculous than scary. I couldn’t take Avantika seriously. I just kept thinking about her role in the latest “Mean Girls” film. Jacob Batalon seemed to be playing more of the same. It’s still weird seeing him bald after seeing him in Spider-Man for all those years with that weird hairstyle.

It was an accumulation of young actors. Even from the trailer, you could tell this film would be subpar. The idea alone was a little sketchy. Not every idea needs to be made. It wasn’t that scary, and some of the writing was interesting. I’ll just leave it at that. I wasn’t expecting much, so I wasn’t disappointed in what I saw. I give this film two mor fires 🔥🔥.
