Directed by famed stuntman turn-director Chad Stahelski. An original runtime that rivaled an “Avatar” film but got cut to a healthy, two hours and forty-nine minutes. Loved every minute of it.
Starring the man, the myth, the legend, and the super killer himself. “John Wick played by the man, the myth, the legend and super killer himself Keanu Reeves.
After getting brought back into the fold and nearly getting killed by then ally “Winston” played by Ian McShane in the last film. With the help of Keanu’s old “Matrix” buddy Laurence Fishburne playing the flamboyant “Bowery King”. He helps give sanctuary to “ Mr. Wick”. Now “John” will use this moment to go on the offense and try to kill “Marquis” played by Bill Skarsgard. The new leader of the assassin world.
“Mr. Wick” will come across many unique assassins. Some foes like “Chidi” played by Marko Zaror. Who’s the bodyguard of “Marquis” himself. Some friendly like “Shimazu played by Hiroyuki Sanada and his reluctant daughter “Akira” played by Rina Sawayama. Then you have “Tracker” played by Shamier Anderson who uses a dog as a weapon like “John” does. You don’t know if he’s a friend or foe. With the wild card of “Caine” played by Donnie Yen who’s between a rock and a hard place. It’s all hands on deck as you watch this super-assassin try to pull off the ultimate revenge.
“John Wick: Chapter 4” is a phenomenal masterpiece of an action film. The director is a previous stuntman and his long working relationship with Keanu showed on the screen. The cinematography and the way it was shot were unique, I loved it. The director being an acclaimed stuntman gave you shots only someone who’s been through that before could give you. Chad and John have an amazing partnership.
Some scenes gave you “Matrix” vibes. I loved that they weren’t messing around. They gave you action on top of the action. With build-up scenes that lead to more action. Keanu Reeves did his thing. I can’t stress enough how amazingly fun this film was. “John Wick” is a bad mother shut your mouth.
I have to give a shout-out to Rina Sawayama. I didn’t know she was a pop star and this was her debut in her first major film. You couldn’t tell that by watching it. Rina looked like she’s been doing this for years and was a badass while doing it. I want to see more of her.
This film brought the heavy hitters out. Any film with just Donnie Yen or Hiroyuki Sanada in it let alone in the same film lets you know they’re about to get busy. You’re in for a treat.
Marquis” Bill Skarsgard mastered playing the French villain. It reminded me of Lambert Wilson who played “Merovingian” in the “Matrix Reloaded”. “Marquis” wasn’t the worst villain I’ve seen but he gave you the perfect amount of asshole so you couldn’t stand him.
I could nitpick at little things here and there but who cares. There was nothing the film did that could change my opinion of it. Maybe if Lance Reddick who plays “Charon” was in it longer. Speaking of Lance. He recently passed away a few days before the film premiered. What a talented human being. God rest his soul.
What more can I say this is the best action film I’ve seen this year. They went all out. A couple of spin-offs are on the way as well. Can’t wait for them. I wouldn’t care if they made ten more of these films. That’s how good it is. Buckle up you are in for a hell of a ride. The “John Wick” franchise for me at least, is in the top five of greatest action franchises ever. I give this film five more fires 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.
